Dave, when I tried doing what you suggest, the program auto-entered a
regular payment amount that assumed monthly payments.  The only way I could
get the payment amount to reflect the whole amount of the pledge was to make
the start date the same as the due date.  And that didn't help at all with
most of the pledges in our campaign, which called for annual payments spread
over 2-5 years.

I never solved this problem and ended up keeping a parallel database to
track when payments were due.  When I entered payments in the ebase records
I just recorded them as irregular payments and ignored the regular payment
amount.

I've switched to version 2, but haven't had a chance to look into how
pledges are tracked.
