I just did a fresh install of 1.2-RC4 with the same results. I will try to
find my disk of 1.2 RC3 and try that. Is there something I am possibly
doing wrong. I am sure i just have a case of incompatible user version.

Thanks Gary for the quick reply. Any clue as to what I am missing? I am
not sure what else to try .
I setup CP in services>Captive Portal
Enable Captive portal Checked
Selected Lan as interface
Setup timers
Set it up touse local authentication
Added some users to the users tab.

It looks to me like it should work.
I also use this box as DHCP and DNS forwarder.
Thanks for your help.

No, CP works just fine without squid in a typical setup. Lots of people
are using CP right now.
