Perfect, it worked a treat. So just to confirm, I'm using 1.2 release
with the 6.2 (not 6.3) BSD, the SATA controllers seem fine. According to
this:
http://blog.pfsense.org/?p=188
and Chris Buechler (on this list) it shouldn't work. Any thoughts? I'd
be happy to provide debugging info.

I did experience exactly the same issues.
This is what I did;
- Boot from the live cd using safe mode
- Proceed with a regular installation
- When choosing the pfSense version ensure you choose
the multiprocessor option (think it was the second one)
...and that was it.
The two Dell R200 I did install pfSense on are now in production
and working sharp. I am not sure why these issues appear in the first
place, however I suspect that it is due the fact that the R200 has 64bit
processors, apparently not supported by the kernel the live cd boots
with.

Thanks for the quick response,
I'll have more info on Monday (I'm knocking it on the head for
today).
I get a load of SATA warnings and the like and then I get a
"kernel stage 12" (I may not be exactly right about this, will confirm
on Monday) as the OS hangs and the keyboard becomes unresponsive.
Josh.

Hi Josh,
I recently installed pfSense on a couple of those? What
problems are you experiencing?

I'm trying to install pfsense on a new Dell R200 server
(without a perc raid card) but I keep stalling. I have very little
experience with BSD so was wondering if anyone has managed a clean
install and if you could offer any tips?
Many Thanks,
Josh.
