Actually, it would be fitting if it were to go to York, as that was where we
first coined the name Ambisonia, in 1996. It referred to a mythical Duchy where
magic rules, where astounding things were possible (even though the astounding
things couldn't be brought out into the Mundane Lands).
The portal to the Grand Duchy of Ambisonia was officially secret, but widely
acknowledged to be through a metal cupboard in Dave Malham's room - you simply
pulled the curtain of cables aside and nipped in. A key feature of Ambisonia
(just like the Lion, Witch and Wardrobe) was that time moved at a different
pace. So you'd go I to do a simple half-hour job - a bit of soldering to some
B-format connectors - and when you came out, hours, or even days, had passed.
For a big job such as building an analogue decoder, by the time you came out
the season had changed and everybody was looking a little older.
The Grand High Vizier and Ambisonic Ambassador to the Mundane Lands, Keeper of
the Keys and Guardian of the Portal was, of course, His Splendid
Fortuitousness, David Mal-ham
I and a colleague - who can be identified as John Vaughan, as the entente
between our lands becomes stronger, worked in a covert capacity, in an
underground workshop producing Ambisonic-to-RealWorld connectors, enabling us
to use Mundane technologies with Ambisonic ones, to provide tools for those
dedicated agents who wished to surreptitiously promote trade between the Lands.
Now that Ambisonic Technologies have been officially recognised (if not fully
understood), it seems a good move to locate the Ambisonic resource in such a
historic location
Cheers

Subject: Re: [Sursound] Death of Ambisonia.com

I must apologise to Etienne (and everyone else) - I had indicated to him that
we at York would be
interested in taking this on but for a number of reasons getting permission at
this end has dragged
on much longer than is good - entirely my fault ( I have had an even more
chaotic year than
usual....). Although I now have draft permissions for this, we need to sort out
what happens when I
retire, which is now just 18 months away (hooray!) otherwise ambisonia could be
in the same state
after that....
