The converse can be worrying. I did a series of 'dawn choruses' in a wetland nature reserve, We put ourselves 50m from the mic and recorded. We and the mic were on 'walkways' above the wetlands (probably designed by Daleks). Two mornings we got distinct footfalls along the walkways ... they weren't human ... but they weren't small.
