Yes

An external setup would be more expensive, but is there any reason why the
internal HD couldn't be replaced? Is your Mac new than a Plus? If so then
the original internal drive shouldn't be too hard to replace. I think you
might have to download some software to format a non-apple scsi drive,
However, The only difference between an Apple SCSI drive and another is the
Apple has special ROMS in it. Using the right program any SCSI drive can be
used on a Mac.

Do you have WWW access? If so, you need to get on Ebay! I bought a 4 bay
SCSI tower with 2 Hard drives a tape drive and a CD-Rom for slightly over
$100 (including shipping). The auction was mainly for the enclosure, but at
least the hard drives seem to work okay. I haven't messed with the CD-rom
yet, and I am selling the tape unit (condition unknown).
