By Jove, Jonathan, you *are* in Paradise already - county libs where
you just can log in (even big univ towns in Europe wouldn't allow that,
not to speak ofthe inexistence of county/local libs) ! And then they
would permit you to use a non-M$-conditioned way to access !! And you
wouldn't even have to pay a fortune for the "privilege" to use all
that !!!
Oh dear oh dear. Most of "culturally developed" Europe closes its
"public" libraries at 5 or 6 p.m. and before any "public" could go
there (and sure keeps closed all weekend), already access to the
catalogue is subject to "Ausweis bitte", and using the electronic
catalogue "from outside ?!?" ... Sure any demand of a personal mailbox
there would provoke all sorts of reactions near to a major police
operation.
