Stay far away from winmodems. Yes, run, as fast and as far as you
can. These save money by reducing the chipsets and replacing them with
programming on the cpu and in winblows so that they only work with
windows. It adds to the work for the processor so slowing down the whole
machine, as well. Additionally, if extra work wears a machine as it
usually does, I would not be surprised if a winmodem reduces your
microprocessor's lifespan, although that may still outlast your lifespan or
use for it... :-)
