You guys rock! I have learned so much just reading along, as well as with
my own tangles, from this list! I am top of my class because of it. Most
of the other students are practically clueless but for me pieces just keep
falling in place because of what I've learned on this list. It's a
beautiful thing.
Today I decided we needed a paleontology day so I packed up my little ps1
and mac plus computers and took them in, set them up and had them do their
thing. The instructor was interested, but the rest, nope. Only have eyes
for the newest, not for the legacy. I'm quite disturbed to realize that
tomorrows A+ and MCP etc. certified people will only know what it takes to
pass the exams, not what any of it means. We are being told to memorize,
never mind what it means or how to do it. This is sad. I will be the only
graduate of my class able to cope with anything other than PnP equiptment.
Folks, if you take in a machine, better make sure the repair person is old,
or fixes up legacy boxes for a hobby or else they likely won't know
anything outside of PnP winblows!
They continually refer to "It's not worth fixing, just throw it out and get
a new one" and they laugh at my affection for legacy equiptment. they
can't understand why I'd want to be able to configure adapter cards
manually or know how to test circuitry. It's a sad thing.
Any way, thanks to the folks on the list for making me top of my class!!

Failing for having moved too fast sets you back farther than caution would
have.
