Karen, It sounds like you already have what you need to run
Realaudio, except software. Your modem is fast enough, and your
sound card sounds good to me. However, I only have experience with
RealSudio under Windows. Others here can help you with RealAudio
under DOS I'm sure.
I would suggest for DOS CD-ROMS, looking at ebay or elsewhere for
used software packages, and the clearance table at computer stores.
Some very rocking cool games that were written for DOS on CD-ROM are
still available. "The 7th Guest" for example is _amazing_ and I ran
it on my 486 just fine and dandy. Mostly you're gonna have to do
some looking. The best way to access them is to type "d:" or whatever
the drive letter may be from the DOS prompt. then you can type DIR
commands, and run files, etc, just like you would from any other
drive. The only way you'll be reminded it is read only is if you try
to format a CD, or copy something to it, you'll get a "read only"
error message. Go play aroud with it!
Oh yes, I believe you can still buy collections of shareware on
CD-ROm from SimTel, including their DOS colection.
chekc them out over at www.simtel.net
