I have just been witness to "Jaws" screen reader for win9x and yes, it's a
bit cumbersome and if one was entirely blind it might not be entirely
satisfactory, yet it does read whereever the menu is highlighted, when the
mouse hovers over an icon, warning messages and similar popups, etc.  only
great problem I really see with it is figuring out where the icons are to
be able to hover over them!  That, of course, doesn't mean one must
automatically just go to win9x, it's still a preference thing!  Also, I
hear "jaws" for dos has now been made free, though I don't know where you
get it.
