I would certainly say that the most common question I have seen is "what
software should I use to access the internet in DOS?" A: Nettamer,
Arachne, or Bobcat. These answers could include a reliable download link
for each application.
Next would be "Where can I find good DOS shareware/freeware Apps?" The
answer to this most likely would be simtel net as that seems to be the most
common answer, although it can certainly include other sources.
Then there are questions of good graphics apps for DOS, sound apps, etc.
I can't think of any one hardware issue that comes up repeatedly. It seems
to me that hardware issues are a little too varied to make a good FAQ out of.
Instead you could set up a quick troubleshooting guide for general computer
problems:
Investigation number one, is there power to the machine and are all cables
well attached?
Number two, Can you reverse whatever changes you made prior to the problem
occurring?
Number three, go in and reset all cards and chips in case they have crept
loose from heating and cooling as the machine is turned on and off.
Number four, can you test the part in another machine, or perhaps remove it
and does the machine then work properly without the part in question? Can
you swap it with another one known to work?
Instructions and links for finding the manuals for these assorted machines
would also be well suited here, many SURVPCs do not come with
documentation. Mentioning the FCC site and how to use it to identify
parts, tips on getting past the "sales desk" at a company's site to get to
the technical docs, etc.
Hope this helps you.
