A word to the wise, and precisely what the Award folks will tell you if
you ask: Award makes the basic chips; the mainboard [motherboard]
manufacturer programs them specifically for the board they will reside
 on.

You can easily reprogram an Award BIOS using whatever you happen to
find; but you are unlikely to be able to use the mainboard they sit on
after reprogramming the BIOS to anything other than board mfr specs.

If there are problems, try to find something resembling a part number or
name on the mobo itself; then do a search on the part number, name or
whatever you can find. If you can find the mfr on the web, you should
be able to find a source for BIOS upgrades for your mobo. Usually they
 have BIOS for older mobos.

One other thing -- best bet is to set up a bootable floppy for when you
want to upgrade *any* BIOS. It should be done with no EMM and no memory
in use above 1Mb, and nothing loaded high.
