You need to make two partitions for Linux: linux native and
linux swap. Linux native needs to be at least 500meg (a gig
or more is better). Linux swap needs to be 2-3 times the
size of your RAM.

I've never used Partition Magic, so I don't know how it works.
But Linux fdisk allows you to set the 'type' number (82 for
swap and 83 for native). If your version of Partition Magic
doesn't do this, then perhaps the Caldera one does. Otherwise
you may need to use fdisk (not MS fdisk, the Linux one is
different).

Actually, you will probably find that the CD can be booted
from DOS (most recent distributions can do this). Have a look
on the CD for a boot directory or a start directory or something
like that. You may find loadlin.exe there. This is the DOS
executable used to boot Linux. It is probably executed from
a batch file in the same directory. If you run the batch
file, Linux should boot and you'll probably end up in the
installation routine.

It is possible that the installation routine will take you
through the partitioning of your HDD (so perhaps it is
unnecessary to partition the HDD in advance).

Your FIRST PRIORITY is to run the installation routine
and see what it does. Surely, there is something in the
instructions telling you how to get into the installation
routine. Printed instructions? README on the CD? It
will be there somewhere.

Cheers,
Steven
