I believe that some people just naturally have more talent for this.
Along with spacial awareness and other cognitive skills, some
people are better at some areas than others. Among other
institutions, the U.S. Air Force tests heavily for these, especially
for pilots. The ability to keep lots and lots of things in your mind at
once, so you can keep track of where a dozen different aircraft are
at once, is very handy in combat situations.
