You can do some pretty useful TCP/IP in 1MB if you use DOS.
Telnet, of course (I recommend NCSA). You can also use DOS
to set up various servers for your network. For example
I use the SOSS NFS server (on a DOS machine with CDrom drive)
to make CDroms available for mounting by Linux machines.
