Well, on both a Y2K, throughput *and* sports-related note: During the course
of doing some Y2K testing and investigations, I had the unique pleasure of
touring one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in the
southwestern United States one fine June day when the temperatures were
about 114F (45.5C). We got into some discussions about maximum plant
capacity, and when usage might peak during "the big event". I was politely
informed that the maximum load (no pun intended) was typically 6 hours after
half-time during the Super Bowl (our biggest football event of the year).
Apparently, New Year's is NOTHING compared to "the surge".

If you thought waiting for a slow download was bad, those guys got to spend
the night doing long shifts (including and outdoor barbeque meal) watching
the fireworks at work!
