The file format(s) *is* TIFF - just as the JPEG format(s) is JPEG not JPG.
The extension is another thing entirely.

But why rename it? The short name for a file called .TIFF in Windows will
be .TIF (.JPEG translats to .JPE and that's a bigger problem IMHO).
