I set it up from scratch, starting with an empty ext2 filesystem
and adding files one-by-one. Initially I made a filesystem that
could fit on a single floppy (no compression). I then moved
it to a 10meg partition, where I added all the CLI executables
that I normally use (except for compiling). That leaves me with
4meg free on the partition.

I selected the files from an existing Slackware 3.5 installation.

I've never used a Zip-disk, but I understand Slackware has a
version for zip-disk that provides lots of bells and whistles.

I am currently booting the ext2 filesystem from DOS using
loadlin.exe. This is ideal for booting a small Linux
partition "hidden" on a DOS/Windows system.

For a portable rescue disk, I would recommend tomsrtbt
(http://www.toms.net). It fits a remarkable amount of
functionality (including man pages) on a single floppy
disk. BTW if you don't like the vi editor, I've patched
tomsrtbt to use pico instead. I've also put in some
DOS-like aliases. Let me know if you want a copy.

Cheers,
Steven
