This is because there physically has to be a cable that runs from a
jack on the cd-rom drive to a place on the SoundBlaster card. There
is no direct physical connection between the CDROM drive and the PC
Speaker.
Most CD-ROM drives have a headphone jack on the front. If you just
play the CD, and plug in headphones, you chould have no problems.
