When?? Are you sure you're not talked about InstantName? ;-)
So far only these two really free (and thus permanent) domain
name providers that I know of. I heard a friend of my sister's
boyfriend also got his' from Yahoo! for free, but didn't checked
that yet...

BTW, VA has upgraded their server to Apache 1.3x, MOD rewrite
no longer work from .htaccess level... Bummer... Forget about
customized 404 and totally virtualized pages... But then, that's
a free hosting service, and such URL rewriting might be a real
resource hog for the others <g>. Expect a week or so delay for
the mainpage engine, though. Since I had to change a few more
things to fit the new server.

BTW (2), the spambot "jailbait" is almost ready for preview.
Take a look here: http://survpc.virtualave.net/cgi/spambot.pl
Since server-level rewriting is no longer possible, spambots
will now be trapped at CGI level. The site should be still
(almost) spambot-free when it's ready for member-submitted
contents, although I will also adding a more secure way to
display your "live-email-addresses" on the web, just to
be safe ;-)
