Pippi,
The ignition switch is a physical switch. I don't see how the car could
remain on, with the switch turned off. Now, of course they do wear, and
sometimes the keys wear, and the combination of the two will allow you
to pull the key out with the the switch on, but thats different because
you haven't actually used the switch.
I wouldn't recommend turning the ignition off, unless you know exactly
how your steering column lock is going to behave. Does your car have
one, Pippi?
