HI, Karen,
Put a line something like this somewhere near the top of your autoexec.bat
file:

c:\dos\mode com1 19, n, 8, 1

This uses the Mode program to set the serial parameters of the com
ports--legal values are com1 com2 com3 and com4; to baud rates--legal
values are 12 for 1200, 24 for 2400, 48 for 4800, 96 for 9600, and 19 for
19,200 baud (Some older machines might not support anything higher than
96). The parity bit is set by the n for none, 1 or 2. The data bit is
set for 7 or 8; and the stop bit is set for 1 or 2. Adjust numbers
accordingly depending on desired comport, baud rate, parity bit, data
bits, and stop bit.

Reboot the beast for the new settings to take effect. If you set it up
wrong, an error messagewill be returned when the batch file tries to
process the command.
