Disk accesses can often cause a scanning utility to restart or at least
backup. Disable anything on a timer, up to and including the screen
saver. It's worked for me before. It will still take a while, so turn
the monitor off to avoid screen burn and remember to re-activate the
screen saver and other utilities.
