i would bet the mouse is dead. try a new one, or better yet,
a track ball, which lasts longer cause it sits still and the
wires do not get constantly flexed and break.

DR-DOS 7 can be installed without wiping the drive, and it will
run win 3.1 better than ms-dos 6x; the ems memory is more robust
and the diskcache faster.  avaiable at http://www.caldera.com

drd7 will also handle multi-gig hard drives and 32 bit transfer.
