The free utility disksecure, available at Rich Green's dos site and
Simtel is, I believe, a pretty good pretection against Stoned and
other Boot sector viruses.

It includes automatic blocking against booting from a floppy, even if the
floppy is accidently in the floppy drive. To boot from the floppy you must
deliberately hit a certain key while starting.

A little like Stoned, disksecure hides the real boot sector data and
replaces it with its own code which, in part, stops attempt to write to
the book sector or partition.

There are viruses designed specifically to attack disksecure, but it
is a pretty good general defense against boot sector and stealth viruses.
