Stoned _______ family of viri.

Last time I got one of those, it was because it was
on the boot track of a floppy -- which I left in the
drive during a restart (oops). This, of course,
bypasses any sort of virus protection you might have.

I had to:
 1) boot from a clean, write-protected, diskette,
 2) run fdisk /mbr
 3) run sys C:

... and THEN I got to run my virus software.

Newer versions of virus checkers do this cute
"checking for floppy-based virus" during any
controlled restart, which only helps, of course,
if you are doing a CONTROLLED restart (!)

But, as the other guys say, DON'T blow away the
drive simply because salvaging it might involve
some work and expertise.

Keep us posted.
