Were the drives reformated?  How many new owners would actually start
undeleteing files and start copying them to another machine to open
them, with the appropriate program?  I doubt many new owners would even
think of it, and depending on how the computers were sold/donated I
would bet that many of them would know how.

If a company doesn't even format the drive, that is just plain dumb.
Unless the data is very sensitive, destroying the drive is just way
overkill.
