First off, if i cannot get an email program to work reasonable fast on a
733 PIII (Win 98) then..... er....ahem..... i'll just keep getting my
email w/ my PowerMail Program (text only, $50 from Switzerland) on my
Mac. I never really learned to do dos. (and I respect admire people
who do, actually) although i have DOS 5 on my 8088.
Dear PAUL PAVLIK - one of the effects of "outlook" can just be studied
in extenso on this very list, i.e. the infestious behaviour to repand
viruses, viridiae, smut. So best to get rid of it.
AFAIK Pegasus for DOS is free by now, and it's a mountain of a program.
There's lots of more simple things to do mail, all free. (Mine
included.)
One of the reasons for my moving away from NS and OE is the mail is kept
in prop format, hard to open up in a plain text, or retrieve messages
from a defunt program. ie i stillhave to get my emails from my old Win
95 hard drive.
Thanks greatly for your suggestions. I will take your comments under
considerations. In fact thanks to ALL who have contributed to this email
prog discussion.
For heaven's sake: eMail is TEXT MODE all the way (_INCLUDED_ those dang
"attachments": even them has to be that as sent by eMail). And using
DOS for that is (1.) faster - less fees -, and (2.) more simple,
controllable, and (under that caveat) infection-free.
