What sort of board is it, and what is the "other DOS computer" ?
If you had given the Zoltrix model number, we probably could have
looked it up to see if it actually is DOS compatible.
(Some winmodems can make the claim as long as it is running inside
a windows virtual DOS box.)
If the modem is a Plug-and-Play (usually PCI) board, DOS may not be
aware that it exists at all. (PnP usually redirects IRQs, port
addresses and COM numbers. "Com1" really isn't com1 under PnP.)
Of course, we have to assume it isn't a Winmodem.
If it is a PnP board that really is compatible with DOS, it came
with a driver on disk which would identify the PnP board to DOS.
There is another possible problem, even if it is a conventional
external modem: how fast is your UART chip in the DOS computer?
Many older ones cannot function at serial rates faster than
9600 bps. BTW - not all external modems are compatible with DOS.
In fact, most sold for PCs today are NOT.
