mskermit from columbia university is still alive, but how can you kill a
communications program that can do either dial up or ip and was written for
more platforms than Bill Gates ever heard of? The deal with mskermit is you
buy the book and get the software for the price of the book. I never used
it on its more advanced ip features, but it can talk to ethernet cards and
regular serial cards as well. Other packages are available but not nearly
so versatile. The trick is, get the columbia university edition of kermit
all the rest are cut down versions of that original protocol.
