They all come on a CD and a complete idiot like me
is given the impression that all he hasta do is turn
on the computer and boot from the cd rom.

I hear people talk about compiling Kernels and using
make files, and I remember linking assembly, and how
much trouble I could get into debugging.

As for crashed caused by Netscape or whatever, I didnt
see any mention of that possiblility in the indexes of
the Linux manuals I have. Newbies are given the idea
that the reason they should change to Linux is that it
does not crash. However, I've seen posts by others on
the alt.linux and alt.mandrake lists who had crashes.

But then again, that's only a few dozen out of however
many are running it, so I guess I am one of the lucky
few who get to see unusual events. Next time I see it
happen, I'll try ctrl-alt-F2; but the habit of dos and
win users when a gui crashes is to just turn off the
system and cold boot, or maybe put the 'reset'. It was
no big deal, and didnt risk trashing the kernel.

If that had happened, it had already happened by the
time I could reset. Arachne usta crash alla time, but
I dont recall that it ever trashed the dos boot. Maybe
that's one more reason I am looking for an alternative.

The idea of BasicLinux running in a ram disk is a damn
good idea. I remember copying command.com to one so it
would run faster on pre-pentiums. The safety factor
had not occurred to me.
