Dear Paul,

Well, question is, what OS is your friend using.  Not that I've ever
needed to have a "boss key" but when necessary, I've used Alt-Tab to
switch to the next application quickly, when someone was coming.

In DOS, there were several TSRs that you could load that would put up a
screenful of information at the touch of a key or two.  I'm afraid it's
been a long, long time since I've had need to investigate those, so I
don't remember any names to search for.

For Linux, I tend to use the CLI mode, so Alt-Fx will switch to another
console window in most distributions.
