I'm hoping to order the $20 3.5" form-factor CF-IDE adapter jamtat pointed me to a couple of months ago (http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/display_product.cfm?product_id=25). Once I get that going, I want to finally get back to testing various operating systems and configurations. With the density of CF available cheaply today, this really makes an ideal replacement for those removable drive bays. I finally ran out of physical drives to use and really don't want to buy any more. I'm assuming DOS/Windows saw it with no fuss? I guess once CF gets REALLY cheap, BIOS limitations will be a concern for those using these adapters on survhardware. Hmm. When we hit 512MB, I wonder if any of the drive manager software will work. The CF Apple II adapter is still on my wishlist too. > [...] > If I can come across a 128MB or 256MB CompactFlash device, I think I > might undertake setting up Win95 the same way, and testing, but I > expect very interesting results from it. Locally, Fry's Electronics has 128MB CF for about $40. You can order from them online via outpost.com. I'm always looking for cheaper, so if anyone sees a better deal, let me know. 128MB seems to be the "sweet spot" for CF now. More than that, and prices jump way up. On a side note, some of the handhelds are supporting CF, so it's becoming easier to use use CF as the "universal media" for exchanging data with anything from an old IDE-capable PC, to a high-end racehorse. I'm still getting a lot of mileage out of my PCMCIA CF adapter for collecting field data and transporting it back home. - Bob To unsubscribe from SURVPC send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe SURVPC in the body of the message.
