Yes, I have tried it. The PKZIP version 2.5 for DOS works just like
everyone's most beloved version 2.04g for DOS. I have used version
2.5 for DOS a couple of times in order to unzip a couple of downloads
which would not unzip with version 2.04g. I myself have never tried
it for WinZip files either. I believe version 2.04g was the last
"kosher and legitimate" version of PKZIP written by the original
developer, Phil Katz, from whose initials we have the name PKZIP. As
you probably know, Phil Katz passed away a few years ago in a most
untimely manner as a tragic victim of alcoholism. Most of us have read
the obits and and eulogies which were posted in many mailing lists and
newsgroups.

If anyone ever finds out whether version 2.5 for DOS is compatible with
files which have been zipped with any version of WinZip, please let us
know.
