I think the binaries at the web site are for the text-mode version. In any case, I don't know if graphical links will run in 4 meg ram. My test PC for Slack 8.1 has 8 meg. As I mentioned before, my 5 meg 386 that was running BasicLinux (Slack 3.5) is out of service (blown power supply). I was able to run text-mode links and lynx386 for DOS on that machine. > > either text-mode or graphics-mode. On my test box (486sx25 8 meg ram, slack 8.1), the zgv 5.6 Debian binary with Slackware svgalib 1.4.3 works fairly well. The vga card is an old onboard Oak (256 or 512K). In /etc/vga/libvga.config, I set chipset to VGA (not OAK) and left the modelines commented out. The monitor is a 14" SVGA (AOC). Seejpeg does not load, the error message says something about not finding a 256 colour mode. If I try to run the graphical links Debian binary, which works in text-mode, it freezes the system and I have to reboot. This may have something to do with the mouse. I don't see anything in dmesg or rc.* about my PS/2 (mini) mouse on psaux. In slack 3.5, there is something in rc.modules and the mouse is recognized in dmesg. I haven't tried using zgv as external viewer with links in text-mode, but I'll do that and let you know. > > I think it would be up to Steven, if he wants to compile it for > > BasicLinux. I haven't got that far yet. I can now compile "Hello world!" on my slack 8.1 test box. Glibc is a 13 meg download. :-) I'm thinking now that it would be more efficient to compile big programs on a faster box. Howard E.
