Once I get a slim Slack71 running on my system, it's just
nuts & bolts to get a simple ramdisk BL2 running. Where
I could use some help is deciding whict applications are
included in the ramdisk version, which applications are
included in the HD version, and which applications get
recommended (with detailed installation instructions).

Actually, I'm thinking about eliminating the separate
install-to-HD package. Rather, the ramdisk version would
include 'go' and 'pkg' (or something similar). Installing
to HD would be more like my Slack81 installation script,
where the script installs a specified list of packages.
For users with a Slack71 CDrom, packages could be taken
automatically from the CDrom. Users without the CDrom
would have to download the packages from a Slack71 site
and put them in a specified DOS directory.

The big issue I see looming is which X browser to use on BL2.
There are several possible candidates: Opera, Konqueror,
Galeon and another one (whose name escapes me at the moment).
Unfortunately I have little experience with any of them
(I've always used Netscape 3.04). I quickly need to get
a grip on how each of them perform on a Slack71 foundation.
The number one priority is good performance on an old PC.
That means size of footprint (including any additional
libraries required) and speed. The second priority is good
javascript capability.

I'm hoping that some of you guys will install Slack71 and
figure out how to install one (or more) of those browsers.
It would be *very* useful for me to get a list of what
packages were needed to get it to work and an indication
of the total size of the browser installation (including
any extra packages that were needed to support the browser).
If the installation is on old hardware (120 MHz or slower),
it would be very valuable to have a subjective assessment
of how the browser performed.

Once I get a simple ramdisk version working, I'll make it
available as a beta for people to hammer. You will be very
welcome to participate.

Cheers,
Steven
