Likewise. I've dealt with CheapBytes before. I've been kind of busy with some other things lately, but I hope to be able to play around with Slack 7.1 when the CD's arrive. I can use my old 486 with 8 meg ram (without X) and I also have a "spare" P133. My main box is a P166. The 133 originally had 32 meg ram. The 166 came with 128 meg ram, which I split up. With Debian, adding more ram to the 133 seemed to increase the performance of X quite a bit. I have been running the 133 with 96 meg ram and the 166 with 64 meg ram for a couple of years and don't notice much difference. I never actually tried the 166 with all 128 meg ram. Both are SCSI systems. I don't use the Debian 2.4 kernel because it uses framebuffers(?) and I don't like the look of the console. As far as X browsers go, right now I just use mozilla or Netscape, depending on the situation, although I've tried at least a half dozen others in the past. Most of the time I still use lynx or links from the console. All the best in 2003, Howard E.
