I have seen SMIL work a bit in Opera and ASV but have never sat down and
measured any behavioral differences between the two.

I have noticed, however, that sometimes JavaScript window.setTimeout() --
i.e., a "classical" web animation -- responds faster, and with less
jerkiness, than the corresponding SMIL animation. The latter is, however,
usually preferable in terms of the complexity of the code, but why might
the timing appear screwy with SMIL?

Should I wear glasses or buy a faster computer?

(incidentally, on the question of flipping coins, I pictured cylinders
flipping about in 3-space and decided it was best not to contribute
something about matrix multipliers to this thread)
