Once I've had a problem with performance in ASV (and the other options). 
I didn't know what it was. Finally I found the problem: a gradient on 
the map slowed all interaction with the map down. So ASV is also not 
fast when using fancy graphic stuff. Nor are other implementations. 
Response to interaction took like 2 seconds. Using gradients on GUI 
elements is probably fine.

So rendering in FF might be a little bit slower, but when you start 
using gradients and stuff on maps, you have to be careful. In my 
experience FF and Opera run pretty good. They only thing you have to 
look after is, which features are currently not yet supported in FF and 
Opera (version 9 preview 2).
