Wow, they disabled a lot of nice HTML5 features. A perhaps better (and open) alternative to Air may be GTK+ with embedded Webkit. I've been playing around with it, and it's actually quite nice and easy to work with, although I haven't tried it on Windows or Mac OS X. On Ubuntu 10.04, at least, SVG support is included in libwebkit which GTK uses, although strangely I haven't been able to get SMIL animation to work.
