they want. Please let me know if you have any ideas about how the magazine is packaged and presented so that its contents are easily searched on CPAN.

Have one distribution per topic: Software::Design::GUI::harmful
Use a Bundle:: (ie Bundle::Magazine::Software::Design::2004)
to define which articles (and real modules :) are in that edition.

Wow, that's a great idea.

But I wonder why you're not supporting the existing channels such as http://www.theperlreview.com/, http://www.tpj.com/, http://www.perlmonth.com/, http://use.perl.org/ and http://perl.com/

perlmonth has a new look, but the articles are from 4 years ago. is that place making a comeback or something?

I have supported those channels and intend to in the future... when I get some
spare time, which might not be for another 10 years.

Also I don't think "packaged and presented so that its contents are easily searched on CPAN" is a good reason in itself to use CPAN. Wearing my cynical hat I might wonder if you're abusing CPAN in order to achieve higher (search engine) visibility.

Hmm, the idea of a magazine on CPAN just sort of sprung up in my head. I also downloaded Randy Kobes' CPAN lite from sourceforge and assessed the possibility of a separate CPAN website just for articles.

CPAN is a beast not unlike Perl. It is big, powerful, useful and can be used and
abused in a variety of ways based on who decides to get involved with it.
Personally I feel a magazine existing within CPAN is a tribute to how flexible
the architecture is.

I don't see a need for another magazine. The existing ones would benefit from your input and suffer a loss of contributions if another channel is opened up. I'm sure one or more of the existing channels would be happy to give you a regular column for sw-design.

1/ One of the magazines you mentioned above did give me a regular column. 2/ I really like the way that CPAN goes from general to specific when naming a module. Most magazines publish articles with freeform titles. By strictly following naming conventions, we develop a collection of writings on a particular topic or CPAN module available in a single place.
