Yes, I've been struggling with this problem over the last few days in
fact. The problem is that WebKit browsers (Safari & Chrome) do not
allow access to the contents of a noscript tag through the DOM - they
just show the contents as blank. So my solution which relies on being
able to get the contents of the noscript tag for case 3 fails.

I've looked through the code for WebKit to see if I can change this
behavior somehow. As far as I can tell there's not a solution. All I
can think of is to have the alternate content both in a noscript tag
and in a specially marked HTML comment. Then for case 3 I'll get the
alternate content from the HTML comment. It's very ugly but for me the
solution to this issue is worth it. I'll post again when I come up
with something.

Even choosing Flash you can't escape all the cross browser issues.
Sigh.
