You'd have to get someone willing to write AS1 style code (circa 7+ years ago),
and you'd have to be able to embed the video entirely on the timeline (as
external FLV videos aren't supported in FP6)... this would limit you to very
short videos (maybe 2 min tops) as timeline embedded videos are known to have
audio/video sync problems if they are much longer than that, especially in
those really old Flash plugins.

There's no way that 3-4% of the world is still on FP6. Adobe's numbers are
here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/player_census/flashplayer/version_penetration.html

It indicates that by their estimates, better than 98% (and closer to 99%) of
the world is on at least FP8, with 94% of them being on FP10 and 99% being on
FP9. I'd hazard a guess by those numbers that FP6 numbers are really like 0.05%
or lower. That's an exceedingly small niche corner of a market to care about.
In fact, from SWFObject's perspective, the only reason we care about FP6 is to
support express-install so that users of such an old FP version are prompted to
upgrade!

--------------

In any case, as several of us have said over and over again, this list has
nothing to do with old archaic browser versions, old archaic Flash Player
versions, version penetration, or what video solutions are relevant or possible
in such configurations. It's only about supporting using SWFObject to embed SWF
content. Exactly the nature of what SWF content you plan to use with SWFObject
is your own business.

If you want to continue searching for someone who will write you a video player
for a 0.05% niche of the market, go right ahead, but please do so on Flash
forums and not here. I think we've been more than accommodating with trying to
help answer your off-topic questions and guide you in the right direction. Now
I think it's time you adjust your goals and/or at least find somewhere else to
pursue them.

As always, whatever SWF content/player you end up choosing, if you have
SWFObject embedding related questions, please feel more than welcome to ask
them here in this list.

Hi Kyle,

Thanks for that. As you can see by the film on the link below, it does play,
but it just would be great to get controls and stop the autoplay - I would even
pay someone else to do it. Getting really desperate for it to work now.

All videos play on my other 2 testing pc's, one has IE6 and one has IE7, but
the one that can't play the films posted here earlier can't be viewed on my
other testing pc, which is IE6 and Flash 6 - a combination that on recent
guestimates would take care of about 3-4% of the worlds population !

  Chris-

You're right, I can't think of ANY modern video players that are FP6
compatible. That player version is so old, all of the ones I know of have long
since abandoned being able to work in it. www.invodo.com requires FP9.0.115. It
uses a recent version of JW Player which I know is not supported back to FP6.

In fact, if I recall correctly, .FLV files are not even supported in FP6. So
that cuts out pretty much every video player in existence.

I'd recommend moving to a newer version of Flash if you want to support video
playback.

  Hi Jimbo,

I'm sure most of us on this list have 'real work' to do, but it's still
always good to help others wherever possible! Anyways, the video on the link
you gave, doesn't work in IE6 and Flash 6 (about 10% of the worlds population
are on IE6). You also seem to have made an incorrect assumption of me being a
non-believer, but there again, it is very difficult to believe in something
that doesn't actually work in the parameters I mentioned <grin>

The screengrab of what I see on your link :
  www.130809.com/jim-berkey-1.jpg (hth)

There again, there's a link to a video that does work in IE6 and Flash 6 :
  www.130809.com/video-10
BUT, it doesn't have any controls, and it autoplays - the controls are needed
and for it not to autoplay.

Now, can anyone help please :-)

  Chris.

Most of us probably have real work to do . . . proving to an unbeliever
that something works is a bit like pushing a string uphill. You'd be better
served on the list if you created what you want first, and if/when it doesn't
work, provide a link to it and then ask for help.

You want flashplayer 6 - a progressive downloaded flv movie file - viewable
in IE6
I don't test for IE6 any more, and don't have it, but here is a movie in
flash player 6 'with full controls':

      Any help much appreciated.
