Hi
Besides, a serious telephony provider needs a telephone switch, which is of order of half a million CHF one-time investment. Plus it needs a decent billing system, another few hundred francs. It has also to re-engineer its transport network to enable QoS along the whole way of VoIP packets.
That's quite some worktime and probably hardware costs too.
Are we talking about VoIP in general or Econostreamer? The latter is basically a SIP-device. Bandwidth consumption is very low (about 12 kbps each direction), latency is the problem. Home ADSL and Cable connections are sufficient for this. Sound quality with Econostreamer is something between the mobile phone and what you are used to from the fixnet. And their support is sufficiently knowledgeable, at least from my experience (not that I want to endorse their products. It works for me, it doesn't have to for you. And for some people 25.25 CHF/pm is a lot of money, you know. Especially if you have to buy fucking overpriced academic books). The only thing which is ludicrous is that they charge you (not much, just 1 cent/min) for connections between Econostreamer<->Econostreamer which is basically a direct internet connection between two devices not passing through any of the Econophone network.
