Hello, Well there may have been a few like there were with male pilots. What was the phase about American GIs in the UK during WW2? "Overpaid, Oversexed, and Over here!".
World War 2 holds a interest because "Radio" expanded into "Electronics". Radar, Electronic Television, and Jet engines were developed. Radar helped the British during the Battle of Britain. It was a golden age of Shortwave as the High Frequency radio bands were the only way to have wireless long distance communications. Women proved they could work in factories during the war but that is not the first time. Women worked in the textile mills starting in the 1800s. While doing other research I found that 1880's Somerville, MA had a child daycare center for working women. It was not called by that name. http://www.nps.gov/lowe/planyourvisit/upload/mill%20girls.pdf 73 Eric ----- Start Original Message ----- Sent: Tue, 09 Mar 2010 15:21:13 -0500 From: Mark Phillips <[email protected]> To: Discussion list for the Winter SWL Fest <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Swlfest] History > Funny you mention WASP.
