I'm not particularly fond of this direction but given the mailing list is hit or miss as to whether anyone actually responds to a post I guess it doesn't really matter. At least this way it would be clear that if you want to get your voice heard you should open an issue on GitHub. The only major downside I see to this is a potential bump in non-issue issues that may clutter things over time.
