Thanks for the feedback. I am using it as an Expr.

But if I do the following, using a Poly, I also appear to get bad behavior:
(Pdb) poly.as_poly().coeff(f0)
*** NotImplementedError: Either convert to Expr with `as_expr` method to use Expr's coeff method or else use the `coeff_monomial` method of Polys.
(Pdb) poly.as_poly().coeff_monomial(f0)
0

In case you're interested in trying it yourself with my exact use case, here is the exact polynomial for one of the simplest cases:
(Pdb) poly.as_poly()
