I'm just discovering how much I miss autoconf and the C preprocessor :)
Python has grown on me lately, but the trouble with this is taht you
have to make certain assumptions about the install system that I
wouldn't dream of doing in C.

Anyway, apart from that, I've nearly got a patch for this, just needs a
bit of a test.
