I suspect what this means is that you have something which resolves as  
"mailhost.<your-domain>" which accepts mail but throws it away.   
Sendmail is doing exactly what it should, namely sending mail to the  
fallback smarthost if it can't find the MX: that fallback smarthost  
unfortunately has some catastrophic misconfiguration.

It would be worth looking up that name and seeing what happens if you  
send some mail to it via telnetting to the SMTP port.

So this isn't a sendmail issue I think, it's a malignant-host-on-the- 
network issue or a DNS misconfiguration issue perhaps.
